A Better Song Than You

The HWY has been a friend
Maybe more than you could be
It sees me through to the end
And helps me out when I remember when

Under a blanket of stars & moon
Where the sunshine bends & blooms
In hotels w/ 4 windows and 2 rooms
In bar-rooms where singers croon

I've heard songs from the Radio King
Listened to the Rain King sing
Watched a California King do her thing
And while she crawled I counted her rings

I did these things to write a song better than you
To blend words & music for a song better than you
All by my lonesome - I never really needed you
I just wanted to be a song better than you

So wish me well - And why not - And never tell
I worshiped you - Like a fan - worshiped you that way -
So sing your songs but know someday that
I've become a song better than you - a better song than you

Kill me - Kiss me - It's really something this way -
Sweet sounds of Jesus during his hours on his crucifix
I've spent so many hours of my life listening to you
Yeah, I know you're good - so good - so good - Is it all good?

So wish me well - And why not - And never tell
I worshiped you - Like a fan - worshiped you that way -
So sing your songs but know someday that
I've become a song better than you - a better song than you

Yeah, a better song than you....
Yeah, a better song than you....
Yeah, a better song than you....
Yeah, a better song than you
