Bruised HWY

if it read take one

she took ten

maybe that's why she dead

oh, i miss her by the river

keepin' the river fed w/ crusts of bread

well, at least she read..

if she had one, she'd give three

she was always sayin' you look dead

in the rear view mirror w/ a smile

oh, i miss her driving moonlit miles

keep it down - way down

and forget what's past

at least the memories -

they sometimes last -

or just not meant to be -

so we keep them way down -

while we drive another hundred miles

-way down south and into dawn-

white lines make a bruised HWY

like all the pills she kept down

and the way she smeared her lipstick

i didn't think she'd be the one dead

-just thought it was they way she wore

her simple frown-

& the simple crown upon her head-

Dedicated to Tanya Brown

of Queen Bee & The Blue Hornet Band

Definitely one of the coolest girls I have ever met

(and I still think it’s cool you hit the Jazz & Blues Intl. Charts

and toured w/ B.B. King and Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy)
